Quicken Online for iPhone
by Dan on February 24, 2010
From concept through creation I helped a small and agile team of designers and developers to bring Quicken Online to the iPhone, Intuit’s first native iPhone application.
Brainstorming
Though our timeline was tight, we facilitated a series of brainstorms with team members from different disciplines across the organization to “go wide” with concepts before narrowing on a particular solution.
Sketching Concepts
We sketched a wide variety of high-level concepts, visual metaphors, general features, detailed interfaces and navigation options.
Design Concepts
Some of the early concepts included two separate smaller “dashboard” style apps, each one focused tightly on solving a particular use case.
We also explored different styles for some of the key visualizations where we were extending the online application.
User Interface
We gathered internal and external feedback by presenting a demo version of the app at MacWorld. Once we’d settled on the features and form of the application I designed over 70 screens and wrote accompanying functional specifications.
Launch
Working closely with the dev team through daily reviews and providing design support for the App Store page, marketing web site, and Quicken Online, we worked our way through to launch. A full page ad in the New York Times capped off an engaging and rewarding project.
